Your Channel Has a Discussion Group? We Gate It Too
Lurking in the discussion group to read channel updates for free — the paywall's biggest blind spot, now closed.
Many Telegram channel owners run the same layout: the main channel publishes content, and a linked discussion group lets members talk about it.
The layout is natural. It also hides the biggest hole in the paywall.
A real freeloading path
Telegram has a native feature: new channel posts auto-forward into the linked discussion group. So:
You build a careful paid channel, price it at 20 USDT, and paying members do trickle in. Then one day you notice a batch of people in the discussion group who never paid — they got the group invite from somewhere and just lurk. Every new post auto-forwards into the group, and they read everything in full view.
The paywall guards the channel's door but is helpless against the group's free seats.
Until now, plugging this hole meant doing it yourself: manually checking who in the group has paid, manually kicking people, manually deleting forwards of new posts. Exhausting, and always one step behind — the forwards keep flowing while you sleep.
Now: control the channel, and the group is controlled
paywall.tel puts linked discussion groups under exactly the same gate as the channel, fully automatically:
- Paying members and active triers — stay in the group freely and talk normally;
- People added by your admins — automatically whitelisted, permanently allowed (an admin adding someone is a gesture of trust; the system reads it);
- Everyone else (expired trials, never registered) — the bot immediately prompts them at the door, redirects them to the channel's official entrance, and then removes them.
The owner configures nothing. The channel–group link is Telegram-native and detected automatically; who stays and who goes is decided by logic that mirrors the channel side exactly. The manage page even has a one-click check: is the bot in the group, does it have the permissions it needs — and tells you precisely what's missing if not.
Why no trials on the group side?
Some owners ask: can the group offer the 30-minute trial too? We considered it and decided no, for two reasons:
- The group serves a different purpose. A trial is a shallow "look before you buy" experience; the group is the deep discussion room for people who paid. Mixing them feels wrong on both ends.
- It protects referral attribution. Triers entering through the channel's official entrance keep referral relationships clean — the 40% goes to whoever earned it, no disputes.
Your content, every path gated
With this, access control covers every route your content can leak through:
| Path | Who gets through |
|---|---|
| The channel itself | Paying VIPs, active triers, whitelist |
| Channel invite links | Dynamically managed — useless in unregistered hands |
| Linked discussion group | Same gate as the channel (this post) |
| Auto-forwarded posts | Group held, forwards held |
Your channel has a discussion group? Open the manage page and hit "Check now" to confirm the bot is in place — the system handles the rest. Not on paywall.tel yet?
